Motivation

Bridal Africa Young Designer Competition Theme 2010: Absolute Bridal Motivation: When students hear that Bridal Africa is running a Young Designer Competition they are sometimes obligated to fuse Ethnic, European and Eastern cultures. We would like to see a pure thread running through their work that contains a particular passion or family history that is ‘absolute’ in its purity, whichever culture it represents. The Judges will be looking at quality workmanship, design creativity and that which is practical in its execution. Once made to fit a model it will be worn to adorn the fashion ramp for Bridal Africa 2010.

Rules

• This competition is open to all citizens of Africa under the age of 35, who are not yet established designers, and who are neither staff nor relatives of NichePro (Pty) Ltd., nor Ford Promotions. A period of two years must lapse before past winners may re-enter.
• The theme: “Absolute Bridal” may be interpreted with western, Eastern or Ethnic approach in mind.
• Note: A complementary headdress is of particular importance.

Deadlines

• Entry forms, firmly attached to the back of your A3 board, must reach the organizers by Friday, September 10, 2010.
• Semi-finalists will be selected from these entries, and invited to present a small sample of a completed piece of needlework for evaluation of their sewing ability, at a personal interview at Sandton Convention Centre on Tuesday, September 28, 2010. If any semi-finalists are unable to attend in person, their samples may be sent to the above physical address for evaluation well before Tuesday, September 28, 2010.
• Finalists will be selected and advised to make up their competition garments according to their sketch entries and present them, plus all accessories, for the fittings at Sandton Convention Centre, onMonday, November 1, 2010, when preliminary judging will take place.
• Final judging, to select a winner and two runners-up, will take place at the Bridal Africa Young Designer Awards to be held at Sandton Convention Centre Date on Saturday, November 6, 2010.
